Here's our 2020 Mushroom Art Calendar - produced now for the 17th year.  With 12 full-size picture pages that adds up to a lot of mushroom pictures Peter has painted.   We have tried never to repeat an image - although different images of the same species obviously appear, as these are the mushrooms that we find on our walks.

The Mushroom calendar is now in print, ready to order from either of the websites: www.mushroomart.co.uk and www.peterthwaitesfineart.com.

Mushroom calendar 2018

Our Mushroom Calendar 2018 is now with the printers.   This will be the 15th year of publication which is a lot of mushroom art.   We try to use 12 different paintings each year and sometimes combine several small images together to make a pleasing picture for a month.

We now have our own small piece of woodland near where we live in Cornwall and keep a watch as to what fungi grow there.   These Russula ochroleuca appeared there last year as did some of the other wild mushrooms illustrated on other pages:

You can go to any of our three websites to see each page in larger size:

Mushroom Art in New York

Mushroom Art at Twitter Art Exhibition New York

Our friends at Creative Coverage – www.creativecoverage.co.uk – alerted us earlier in the year to the Twitter Art Exhibition in New York in April: http://twitterartexhibit.org/ .
Artists worldwide were invited to send an original piece of artwork, postcard size, to be sold for the Foster Pride Handmade Program Charity.

We sent a watercolour painting of a morel mushroom – morchella esculenta.  We couldn’t actually spot it hanging on the wall on the Twitter Art website but it was there somewhere amongst the other 1000 entries. We later heard that it had sold on the opening night :

"I was a volunteer with other artists at the Foster Pride Charity and I'm thrilled to write that I bought your beautiful post card. We all loved it, however, I was the lucky one to pick it first.  It is certainly a beauty. I will hang it in my cottage in the Catskill Mountains of New York - upstate. It's the perfect environment for the little house. I truly  love it...."

It’s nice to think of Peter’s mushroom art in such a lovely place.

The nextTwitter Art Exhibition will be in the UK at Stratford-upon-Avon in April 2017 – so keep checking for submission dates if you would like to take part.

Building on its reputation for always being ahead of the curve, Warner Bros. Pictures Canada created a unique outdoor installation merging science and advertising that is guaranteed to leave movie lovers, science buffs and art enthusiasts in 'awe' or 'eww'.

In support of Academy Award ® winner Steven Soderbergh's latest film "Contagion" -- in theatres September 9th, Warner Bros. Pictures Canada teamed up with microbiologists and immunologists from around the world to create a one-of-a-kind bacteria message board located at 409 Queen Street West in an abandoned store-front window. On August 28th, two large Petri dishes were inoculated with live bacteria including penicillin, mold and pigmented bacteria and almost overnight have revealed the true Contagion -- an artistic interpretation of the spread of a virus as depicted in the film.

The public was invited to witness first-hand the remarkable growing power of natural bacteria on Wednesday August 31st from 11:00 AM -- 2:00 PM. The first 50 people who arrived received passes to see "Contagion" in theatres and other themed prizes.

Wild Mushroom Art

The wild mushroom foray season seems only just to have finished with the first frosts in this part of the world. Our autumn exhibition at the Five Arrows Gallery in Exbury Gardens, near Beaulieu in Hampshire was a great success with both original mushroom watercolours and lots of prints and cards being sold.

We are now gearing up for the spring exhibition at the Five Arrows Exbury with the Four Seasons Art Group where there will be a further selection of original watercolour paintings of wild mushrooms. The exhibition starts on Easter Sunday, 8th April and runs until 10th June. You can find full details on the group's webpage: www.peterthwaites.co.uk/four_seasons_art.html and see everything else that is on offer at Exbury Gardens at http://www.exbury.co.uk/

If you would like any more specific details do get in touch.

Mushroom Autumn

Amanita muscaria - Fly Agaric - wild mushroom postcard

Coprinus picaceus - Magpie Incap - wild mushroom postcard

Cantharellus cibarius - Chanterelle - wild mushroom postcard

Boletus edulis - Cep - wild mushroom postcard

It has been a fantastic mushroom autumn here in the south of England - due they say to a very wet August with very mild night-time temperatures.

Peter's mushroom art has headed all around the world this year .... we were invited to take a stand at the International Mycological Congress in Edinburgh in August where almost 2000 delegates converged to talk about all imaginable aspects of mycological studies and research.

We launched a new series of mushroom poster prints and mushroom postcards. These were a huge success with the mushroom postcard end of our stand turning into a signing booth as Peter was asked to sign whole sets of postcards for enthusiastic delegates.

The October Wild Autumn Art exhibition at the Five Arrows Gallery at Exbury Gardens, near Beaulieu in Hampshire, likewise broke sales records - so all in all, a most successful mushroom art season.

The 2011 mushroom calendar which we produced in time for IMC Edinburgh is also heading to be another sell-out this year.
